General Rules

  1. Entries will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Multi-Purpose Building. No entries shall be removed before 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
  2. Judging will commence Wednesday morning. Exhibits are closed to the public until judging is finished and the display is complete.
  3. Photographs previously entered will not be accepted.
  4. The exhibitor must have taken original photograph within the last 24 months.
  5. No framed entries will be accepted due to the difficulty of displaying and the possibility of damage to these and other entries, unless specified in Special Contest rules.
  6. All entries must be mounted on matte board using either adhesive or (preferably) dry mount tissue. No spray adhesives. Entries may be flush mounted providing the print is 8" x 10" or larger. Window matte boards are acceptable. MINIMUM MATTE BOARD SIZE IS 5" X 7". MINIMUM PRINT SIZE IS 3 1/2" X 5". MAXIMUM MATTE BOARD SIXE IS 16" X 20". MAXIMUM PRINT SIZE IS 16" X 20".
  7. Please mark PHOTOGRAPHER'S NAME, age of exhibitor, according to categories in rule #10, photo title and exhibitor number on the back of each entry for identification purposes.
  8. Maximum number of entries allowed in Division A or B will be 6 (six) per person. All six entries may be entered in the same class.
  9. All entries will be judged. However, the judges may reserve the right to disqualify an entry in the event that the entry fails to meet the General Rules set herein, the entry is deemed inappropriate in subject matter, or for any other reason the judges determine facilitates disqualification. The decisions of the judges are final.
  10. Age Categories:
    1. Junior youth, 12 years and younger
    2. Senior youth, 13-18 years old
    3. Adults, 19-59 years old
    4. Senior citizens, 60 years and older
    Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
    1. Quality of the photograph
      1. Subject and the handling thereof
      2. Composition
      3. Focus-clearness
    2. Presentation
      1. Neatness
      2. Coordination of matte board
      3. Quality of mounting material
    3. Title
    4. General impact
  11. Providing an entry meets the requirements of the General Rules, entries will receive points accordingly. The possibility exists that not all entries will receive ribbons. Every attempt will be made to display all entries.
  12. Entries in Department 505: Student/Professional will be judged according to the criteria set in Professional General Rules #10 with no regard to age.

Rosettes will be awarded for AMATEUR "Best of Show" for color category as well as black and white category to the respective winner in each age division. PROFESSIONAL "Best of Show" and STUDENT "Best of Show" entries will also receive rosettes. All entries will receive premium points for their entries.

Division 1: Color Prints

Divison 2: Black and White Prints

Division 3: Theme Photography

Points: Blue-30, Red-25, White-20
All of the General Rules apply. Photo may be either black and white or color and must depict current fair theme for each year. Object of this division is for exhibitor to create an image that best suites the theme. Composition and subject matter is the decision of the photographer.


Division 4: Educational Exhibits

Points: Blue-25, Red-20, White-15


Division 5: Old Time Photograph Display

Open to all ages, amateur, students, professional, FFA and 4-H
Points: Blue-25, Red-20, White-15
Rules: Items must be at least 25 years old and belong to the exhibitor or a family member. Photographs only please. Entry must never have been entered in the fair before. Entry must be single photo or a grouping but cannot exceed 2' x 2' in size unless with advanced approval of Superintendent. Top entries will receive a rosette in each department.
Due to age of photos, these may be under glass, this category only. Fair will not be held responsible for broken glass.


Division 6: Digital Photography Color

Division 8: McGregor Contest

Agricultural Photography
Points: Blue-25, Red-20, White-15
Rules:

  1. Contest open to Amateur and professionals 18 years or older. Photo to be taken by entrant within last 24 months and showcase "active" agriculture pertinent to Whitman County. Photo must not be item sold as a commercial product but solely used for the purpose of depicting agriculture in Whitman County. One entry per person. Other items may be entered in open class photo department.
  2. Color photo must be an 11"X14" in size.
  3. Print must be mounted in a 16"X 20" matte.
  4. Print and matte must be mounted in a 16"X20" wooden frame with glass over said photo or treated print. The wooden frame must be at least 1"" in width to qualify.
  5. Framed entries must have a sturdy eye bolt hanger with wire mounted on the back of frame for display purposes. Those entries inadequate will not be accepted.
  6. Entries in this contest may not be entered in other Fair photo categories. Judging will be done by qualified judges. Photo judged on quality, presentation and general impact.
  7. Name, address and phone number of photographer must be legibly displayed on the back of the framed photo.
  8. Three top entries will be chosen to receive rosettes and cash prizes:
    1st place: $100.00
    2nd place: $60.00
    3rd place: $40.00
  9. Only one award presented per photographer. Prizes will be included in Fair premium check.
  10. Winning photos will be displayed for one year at the McGregor Company Office (photos returned to owner at end of year).
