Community Booths (Adult) and Youth Booths

Department 701: Community Booths (Adult)

Any Grange, Farm Bureau unit or other rural community groups are eligible to exhibit a booth at the Palouse Empire Fair.


Rules and Regulations
  1. All products are to be in place by 10:00 p.m. Wednesday of Fair week.
  2. Each booth will register their entry through the Grange Booth Superintendent no later than Wednesday evening.
  3. Exhibits are to remain in place until 5:00 p.m. Sunday or may be removed the following Monday.
  4. Space allotted for booths will be approximately 8' x 10' including sides and backdrop. All items used in the exhibit should remain in the assigned display area.
  5. All naturally grown or processed agricultural products used in the booth must be displayed in its natural state or color. Perishable products and canned fruit may be used as a part if the display in Division 2, but may not be entered in other departments.
  6. Division 1 exhibitors are required to supply a list of all items/seeds used in the display. The Fair provides forms. This listing will be placed in the Community Booth Judges book as a reference for the judges.
  7. Judging guidelines emphasize how well the chosen theme is portrayed.
  8. When judged, those booths receiving 65 or more points will receive a guaranteed cash premium of $50.00 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place rosette will be awarded to the top entries per class. Cash prizes for 1st-4th places will be awarded based on rosette placing.
  9. Each booth will be scored and rated according to the division rules and score sheets provided by the Fair. Judges comments will be mailed to each booth upon completion of the Fair.
  10. All booth names will be displayed at the base of the each booth on signs provided by the Fair. The signs should be incorporated into the overall display and are covered during judging.
  11. All protests regarding the judging shall be made in writing and follow the Fair"s established Grievance Policy. Copies of the Grievance Policy are available upon request at the Fair Office. Persons must state plainly the cause of the complaint or appeal and file it with the Fair Management within 24 hours after the cause of the protest.

Division 1: Agricultural Grain Mosaics

Exhibits using natural or processed agricultural products to create a picture. Will be judged on:

  1. Choice of Message: 10 points
    Does the booth have a specific message for audience; give the audience a better understanding of and appreciation for the resources or services of a community, county, or a particular agricultural or industrial enterprise of the community?
  2. Visualization of message: 40 points
    Is there a center of interest? Balance? Unity? Effective use of color?
  3. Quality of products: 10 points
    Are the perishable agricultural products used of top quality?
  4. Originality: 10 points
    Is the booth original in basic concept?
  5. Workmanship: 30 points

Division 2: Agricultural/Education Activity Display

Exhibits entered in this class display the yearly farm, gardening, canning and creative talents of the organization. Will be judged on:

  1. Representation of aim of organization: 30 points
  2. Visualization of message: 40 points
  3. Quality of products: 10 points
  4. Originality and attractiveness: 20 points

4th prize - $20.00



Department 702: Youth Booths

Entry Reservations due August 15. Contact Fair Office for entry form.


FFA chapters, 4-H clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts troops, Campfire, etc. may be given space for educational displays of their work. Youth exhibits of this nature will be displayed in one general area with space allocated on a first come-first serve basis.


Rules and Regulations
  1. Each group will register their display through the Fair Office by filling out a registration form and securing an exhibitor number using their group name. This exhibitor number will be used for this group display only.
  2. All booths are to be in place by 10:00 p.m. Wednesday of Fair week. Displays can be set up prior to this time with manager approval.
  3. Exhibits are to remain in place until 5:00 p.m. Sunday or left until Monday, if desired.
  4. Space allotted for each booth will be approximately 6' x 6'. All exhibit material shall be sized to fit this area.
  5. Youth group members with adult supervision will set up booths only.
  6. If possible, use of current Fair theme is encouraged. Fair theme is mentioned on the front of the premium book.
  7. Crepe paper may be used for decoration.
  8. Mechanical devices may be used in the booth.
  9. The committee will designate two judges. Judging will be on Thursday a.m. Each booth will be scored and rated according to the rules and scorecard.
  10. Each booth receiving 65 or more points shall receive a guaranteed premium of $50.00 plus be eligible for the top three prizes.

  2. Design: 30 points
    General arrangement, attractiveness, color balance, originality and appeal
  3. Quality of work: 30 points
  4. Development of theme: 10 points

Due to limited space concerns, premium points earned in this contest will not count towards club participation. Total points earned by these same groups in other fair contests.
